type='text'>FREE at LAST

hello all it has been a busy summer for us so i apolgize for not bloggin, as most of you know i lost my mom and dad a about a year ago and all this was incompassed by us following are leading to south carolina to be apart of the journey church plant. also our house has been on the market for two yrs givin all these circumstaces and with the pull of our family needing us and we them. we question Gods calling us here to SC many times.For some reason we tought that like most people that came it would be smooth sailing we move to SC sell our house share Christ with people and live our life. we had no ideal that it was going to be thiss ruff, we have perserved by Gods grace to remain here.God has done some amazing things along the way to confirm were we belong. one after noon while driving in my truck wrestling with all the descion i needed to make. up to this point we had really been leaning on our house to sell as confrimation so the lack there of was not good,so while driving i was talking with the Lord about all this and was to the point that i really just need a gleamse of why we were here, so a basiccly said to him i don't care about the house i just need to know if you want me back in ky then give me a job offer there or some thing i just need to know, so that very night a freind of mine that i have been reaching out to here wanted to talk so we meet up and God showed up as he gave his life to Christ that night. from that God was saying there is your sign Chris, and at that point i deciede that come hell or high water i was staying what were God had me SC.Later jenny had a similar story of afirmation, so we began to make our home here from building a fence to just doing some land scaping any thing to help this Southern plantet to fell more like Ky and home. from the day that happened i tore my knee up playing softball and dealt one my moms one year lost labor day i was even told by a friend that we were not obligated to stay here a week after my encouter with jake and god i had a friend tell me about a job in Ky. so i was thinking crap here we go agian but jenny and i refused to go there no more beening tosed about by the waves i was staying. just last week my realtor called me to tell me we had someone looking hard at our house which i heard many times,later on that we they made a offer (now keep in mind it has been two long years) so tears of joy were in our heart as we gave God thanks. our closing date is going to be at the end of this month and we our extremly gratefull. now heres the cool part the people buying our house was called by a uncle from texas before they even seen our house and told them he had a dream about a house and he desribed that house to them in detail just so happen(GOD)it is our house. i can tell you one think i know with out a shadow of doubt that my place is here in Summerville SC, and we are persuing Gods glory here with a thankfull and joyfull heart
<img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2766496567522266030-8439782144721719424?l=mattinglysjourney.blogspot.com' Of course it just makes me miss them more but our visit was great and I am looking forward to them coming again sometime. I guess we are adjusting pretty well but there are still a few bumps in the road. Joshua has decided to show some protest during bed and meal times and with the extra time given to his discipline coupled with nursing for an hour every 3 hours, my day is pretty much focused on kids. I can't drive all week and I'm already feeling couped up and it is only Monday. All this coupled with several hours less sleep--I've given Chris fair warning about my mood come Thursday (or maybe as early as tomorrow). I must give plenty of deserved plugs for Chris though because he is an awesome dad. I'm sure this doesn't come as a surprise to any of you but he always feeds Emma at least once in the middle of the night for me and both Friday and Saturday night he let me sleep all night long. Wow that was great.

Daddy's girl

<img style="cursor:pointer; Anyway, I packed my bags (yes at the last minute), I called Chris to come on home and I thought we would have had a baby but after going to the Dr. she basically said "suck it up girlfriend, this could go on for weeks--you aren't even crying" so she sent us on our way and I had contractions for the entire day yesterday but none of them made me cry or made my water break so basically we are still a family of 3 as of this morning (well physically anyway). We'll keep you updated.

p.s. If it weren't for the Browning's I don't know where we would be. I called Tarah yesterday morning to tell her that I was having contractions, she heard Joshua screaming in the background and came right over with Jed in his pj's and picked up my screaming little boy. Then she and Will kept him all day so Chris and I could have a nice day together. They are the most selfless people we know and we are so grateful for them.

God's provides for our family

For weeks now I have been wrestling with frustrating thoughts that have clouded my view regarding my work situation and today God showed me that despite my sinful expectation of His provision for my life, He was in control all along. Ultimately I always know this but sometimes my actions speak louder than my words.
About a month ago my boss discussed the end of the road for me at Humana (which I was expecting and was OK with); however, it took a toll on my emotions when I realized that my last day would end up falling the day before the baby was born AND that because of my part-time work status I would NOT be eligible for maternity leave and I would lose 90 hours of accrued sick time. In my frustration and desperate eagerness to make something happen to provide for my family during the month of February I have been frantically searching for another position at Humana or otherwise and I was only successful at stressing over how we were going to pay our bills. Now, long story short I will be paid for maternity leave and have my position with Humana through Friday, March 14th. And if that weren't good news enough, I have even been given an additional 6 hours each week. So not only has God provided for us He has gone above and beyond. I am so humbled by His blessing amazed that He would take care of us in so many ways.

part 2

though it has seemed liked a hard year it has only served to remind me once again that we are but a breath of air created from the dust of the earth. life is only what we choose to make of it. we can crap it away on useless things or we can use every second of breath that we have to praise God for that very second of breath. In the book of Job after Job faced his difficult circumstances. he sought the Lord and when God did finally speak to Job all he said was this "who are you to question my ways" Job's perspective was to expect good and bad from God, and i am sure mine should be that of the same. as much i have wanted to be angry or mad at God for all these things i simply am not able because i have experienced the fullness of his love. and everyday he reminds me that no matter where i go, what bad choice i have made, that Christ's death on the cross was enough, and that he has suffered with me as well.

even still i have been in the midst of wrestling with all the why's & hows? and i find myself in a storm of emotions, yet my heart is still calm and relaxed waiting for my savior wondering what is next............

to be cont'd

when life Sucks

this is CHRIS BLOGGIN
any way as most of you know it has been one hell of a year for Jenny and i, from finding out mom has cancer,to joshua getting MRSA,to losing mom, and then losing dad, but what has been imprinted on my mind so much is that none this started inti ll we decided to move to SC to be part of a church plant. most logic,and new agers would say bad carma,or that maybe we should have stayed and those thing wouldn't happened. that is B.S it was a likely product of us being faithful to Gods call on our life. am i blaming God no! i am just stating the facts. part of the reason for leaving was that jenny and i had put a lot of time, prayer and thought into this process. whispered into my heart mths previous to all this was a passage of scripture that states if a man loves his mother & father house or land more than me
(me being Jesus) than he is not worth of me. Right before leaving from KY back to SC he tripped up the stairs banged his chin on his cars and bit his tongue on both sides. After nursing it with some fun blue ice from Nanny's house all was well. The very next night, however, back in SC he was running through the kitchen, wiped out and hit his eye on a plastic storage container. No big deal you say? Well let's just say that with everything else that has gone on and my hormonal, emotional roller coaster when I got Joshua up the next morning and he tried to look up at me with his one swollen eye and said "hut" eye mommy, I couldn't keep the river from flowing. I took a picture to prove the need for sympathy and of course just a couple days later his eye has perfectly healed and all is well.

Christmas at Nanny's and the Mattingly's

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R4UxwxMX0KI/AAAAAAAAAHg/EWLCxJlZkOk/s200/Picture+022.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153580062504112290" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R4UxxRMX0LI/AAAAAAAAAHo/zsg-Y1yKUxw/s200/Picture+036.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153580071094046898" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R4UxxhMX0MI/AAAAAAAAAHw/IorxjG7VSSo/s200/Picture+023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153580075389014210" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R4UxxxMX0NI/AAAAAAAAAH4/yznQ_STLfy0/s200/Picture+061.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153580079683981522" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R4UxyRMX0OI/AAAAAAAAAIA/6MmyABDLggQ/s200/Picture+056.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153580088273916130" />Christmas was marked with many ups and downs and bittersweet memories this year. Due to pregnancy Chris and I were not going to be able to go to KY to celebrate Christmas with family so we had planned a couple of new "traditions" and had dreamed up a couple of ways to incorporate Christ's birth in our holiday. Unfortunately, on December 18th we received a call that Chris's dad had died and our plans went out the window. We drove to KY anyway and got to spend Christmas with family afterall but with the looming reality that both of Chris's parents have died in the same year just a few months from one another. So to say the least Christmas was filled with a number of ups and downs this year and it was difficult to focus on the reason that we celebrate Christmas in the first place. I feel guilty for not doing more to focus Christmas for Joshua's sake but hopefully we will be able to do more of that next year.

Anyway, here are a few photos

Spaghetti "Noodnles"

<img style="float:left; We took him to the park and invited some of his friends (because it was 85 degrees here yesterday). We were all sweating but we ate some funfetti birthday "pantake" as Joshua calls it and played on the slide and swings. It was a lot of fun. Then Joshua sang "Happy Birthday to me" literally on the way home from the park. ..

Picking out the perfect tree

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R16XNfoOiUI/AAAAAAAAAGo/1-JFGYi6rOQ/s200/100_1648.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142714082588002626" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R16XOPoOiVI/AAAAAAAAAGw/gdrB63L7s1I/s200/100_1652.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142714095472904530" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R16XOvoOiWI/AAAAAAAAAG4/_VSpoBX6ENc/s200/100_1649.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142714104062839138" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D3WBfMNymxc/R16XPfoOiXI/AAAAAAAAAHA/xkGdhQFKOdE/s200/100_1656.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142714116947741042" />
This is the first year without our normal Christmas traditions so we decided to come up with a few of our own--one of which is getting a real tree. Chris didn't want to just go to Wal-mart and pick one up though (he'd rather hop someone's fence and sneak one out of the woods) so we compromised and went to a Christmas tree farm right down the road from our house. It might seem silly but we had a lot of fun. It was a little strange though because it was pretty warm and very sunny....we are having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit around here. Chris and I have been talking about and planning the big day for weeks now in anticipation of baby sister Mattingly who will need the crib soon. We put Joshua in his pack 'n' play (because that's what he's been sleeping in for the past 5 months) for a couple of days right next to the fire truck bed and talked to Joshua about it. And on Sunday when Chris put Joshua down for bed, without discussing it with me first (ha ha), Chris came out of Joshua's room and said "guess what? Joshua's sleeping in his fire truck bed" I didn't know which emotion to cling to first; a) the thought that Chris decided to do this without us planning the date firmly on the calendar b) that Joshua was actually staying in the bed or c) that my little boy was growing up. So I did the most rational thing a pregnant mom would do--I cried. We went in his room over and over again just sure that he'd sneak off into the closet to play toys or run around his room, but much to our surprise he slept like a little angel all night and that was it. Naps have been a little different since he can see his toys during the day, but all in all he's done really well!

p.s. Thanks aunt Amy for the fire truck pajamas to go with my fire truck - Joshua

The big move...

This weekend we will be "officially" moving our things from KY to SC. I guess we have "officially" been in SC for 5 months now, but I think the reality will really kick in once we have settled in. I never dreamed that this move would happen before our house sold in KY but apparently the Lord had a different plan for us. We are committed to this decision even though it has been difficult and continue to trust the plans He has already declared for us. The Lord has been in control the entire time. The problem is that sometimes I lose focus and try to get in the way too much.

I can't wait to get to know our neighbors and share with them the best thing I know which is the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I know it is going to be a long, difficult road but more and more I am convinced we are in the right place.

Too funny

Well everyday my son continues to crack me up and yesterday was no exception. With a small story just to make some smiles. We got in the van and because it is still 90 degrees in SC it is very hot in the van which he normally points out. So I put him in his car seat and he says over and over again "hot", "hot". Then he says "bwow on it" and he did. He blew in the van for a few minutes cooling it off just like he does his "oatmeyll" every morning. He is such a blessing from the Lord and he makes the difficult days a little easier.

Sorry it's been so long....

I haven't been a very good picture-taking mother lately so no blog for you! Here are some random photos that I hope you enjoy. One of Joshua helping mommy clean; another of Joshua "unner" the bed; and Joshua "hidning" in the "piddows". He's been a lot of fun, but fussy the past few days and very clingy to mommy. Actually he walks around with his arms up saying "hode gyew, mommy" about 1000 times a day--sometimes I hold him....sometimes I don't. I don't know what I'll do when baby 2 comes along.

On the church front, we are having our first "real" service on Sunday and by that I mean we are beginning to invite people in the area. Up until now it has been a leader development process. We are all very nervous and excited but hope there aren't 100 kids in the nursery. I'm sure the Lord will work everything out for us. I hope to post again soon. We rushed home to KY with the privilege of spending the last few days with Chris's mom, Connie who passed away last Monday around 10 a.m. The experience was difficult, but in some way Chris and I were able to draw closer to each other, our family and the Lord during this time. We have never had to deal with death while married or as parents so we did the best we could.

On a lighter note, right before returning to KY we were able to sneak in an ultrasound visit and found out that we are surprisingly having a girl. Most of you probably know that Chris is one of five boys which left me with little hope of having a girl of my own one day, but God knew the desires of my heart and blessed us with a girl. My mom had been having a dream that we came home, dressed in all pink, to surprise her with the news and so to make her dream come true we did just that. But unbeknownst to me, I was in for a surprise as well-- a 3oth birthday surprise. While I was standing in the driveway blindfolded my mom and sister were looking at my pink shirt with tears in their eyes and being hushed by the surprise party crowd that didn't know why they would be crying. Surprises all around!

This week we are back in S.C. to get back to routine and refocus our attention on the reason we are here in the first place--reaching lost people. Please pray that I will find ways to meet and befriend women and families in the area and likewise for Chris to meet men here too. So far that has been a little more difficult than we thought. I work from home and stay at home with Joshua and while Chris meets people all the time, it is just for a short time and hasn't had as much friendship building time as he would have hoped. I better go, but stay in touch. Some days it is very difficult being so far away from family, but more and more God confirms and reconfirms our need to be here. I think Chris and I were stuck in our comfort zones in KY and didn't even know it. We thought being in the ministry was hard and it definitely can be, but we found ourselves surrounded by Christians or at least people who went to church and claimed to be Christians but didn't always treat others like Christ would have. Now that we are here, I am so much more aware of the world outside of church and the hurt that so many people carry around with them without knowing what to do with it. I am ashamed to have gone so long in life being a Christian, sometimes setting a bad example for some of the friends and family in my life and worse yet never really getting to know lost people closely enough to share with them the best thing I have to offer--salvation through Jesus Christ.

I will forever remember my friend Jason in college who died of brain cancer. I honestly don't know if he was going to Heaven or Hell when he died. According to statistics, it is most likely that he went to Hell. I am very sad about that and I have asked for forgiveness over and over again even though I only need to ask once--I just can't seem to forgive myself. I do not want to continue down this path of cowardliness and shyness. I want others around me to know that the best thing I know is that Jesus Christ died for my sins, I believe it, I accept it and my life changed because of it. I just want other's lives to be changed too.

Jenny

Playing in the Fort

Yesterday (Monday), Joshua and I had a really fun day together. We had a really good time just relaxing.

We went to a little carnival thinking Joshua would really like bouncing on the rides but he was scared to death so instead he played a couple of games that required throwing balls (which is always a favorite of his). Eventually, he got tire of trying to get the ball into the hole so he just walked up there and put it into one of the squares. We all got a laugh out of that.

We also took Joshua "putt-putting" for the first time because I thought I could kick Chris's bootie, but in fact he kicked mine with a couple of birdies and a hole-in-one.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5103812405855368834" style="FLOAT: right; So far he knows the letter "O" and sometimes "B" so I've got one, maybe two down and 24 to go.

Gettin' some stuff done

Today Joshua and I have been doing some chores while daddy is at work. He is a very good helper (not to mention cute). He helped me load the clothes in the washing machine and then put them in the dryer and since he was doing such a good job helping we also went outside to wash the van. He had a lot of fun playing in the bubbles but he actually did help wash the car. It was only 9:30 in the morning and he was still in his pajamas--hopefully there are no child labor laws that are going to get me. When we came inside he put his dog down for a nap in daddy's lunchbox cooler and asked me to be quiet because the dog was taking a nap--I complied.

the Pathway

to stay in touch,
Hello out there world. especially Ky yehhaw. the family and i have been in the midst of turmoil and struggle. It is a very exciting time in our life we are beginning to feel the stress from giving up our comforts, and yet even our faith feels tested. If I could give you a snapshot of the last few months where would I start. We were called by God to leave ministry to pursue missions in SC to be simple servants and share Christ with the world in a radical way. We left behind two very sick parents, our dream home, our stuff (like TV, bed, tools, garage, home, pets and my fav-the beloved couch) and family, basically everything. Ironically, those very Words were planted into my heart before we even answered the call. You remember when Jesus told his disciples that if you weren't willing to leave houses, mother or father, for the sake of the kingdom then you were not worthy of Him--He meant it. All this to live in beautiful Summerville, SC--full of pine trees and sand (seriously that is all there is here). In the strangest of ways we know we are here for this one reason to live in the center of God's will for our life.

Speaking of Will, God thought it was a good idea for us to crash with them (Will & Tarah) for a yr or or actually until the home in Ky sells (praying that it is sooner than later) they are a great family who lives are busy full of many things different from our own yet somehow we co-exist. 8 people and a dog in one house can easily feel cramped. Their grace and generosity has been more than we could ask for or expected. They have become in some ways our new family.

In the midst of this wild ride I have been seeking God more and experiencing God more and more . I am sure that is why life seems a bit difficult right now. I even feel somehow that I am not as useful as I could be here but God reminds me that if it is just to sweep up the floors of the church the I need to be here. Jerm 29:11 reminds that He has a plan, and it is better than mine that is the CMV (chris mattingly version). So as the Mattingly's hang on by a thread God is weaving us into the people he wants us to be, changing our lives one day at a time. I am so glad that I came. I will one day look back on these moments with no regrets and only praise to my God who loves me, sanctifies me, and gives us all a hope and a future.
